Motivation comes in work shaped packages.
So it's the 24th of July, which in Utah is technically a holiday. Where am I on this holiday, gentle reader? I'm at work. Yes. At work. Full 8 hour day, at work. Other people are at parades and going fishing. I work for an international company that doesn't recognize state holidays. Soo...I spent the whole day fuming, since I had nothing to do work wise, (the old game of hurry up and wait) and plenty that I needed/wanted to do that had nothing to do with work. Such things turn into motivation for me. Write. Write. Write. Writing is what I love. Writing is my chosen craft, as well as being the craft that just won't let go. It wells in my head all the time. If I'm just sitting around somewhere I itch for paper and pen to write...something...anything... I'm a writer because I am compelled by some inner muse to write.
I've learned that being a writer is the easy part. There are millions, maybe even billions, of writers in this world. The hard part is 1: Writing stuff that other people want to read. 2: Getting it to where those that want to read it can. 3: Getting them to pay for the right to read it so that I don't have to work for other people anymore since it makes me crazy. The humanization of the Internet and the blogosphere has made some of this easier, but it's still a matter of right place, right time, right price.
I'm still mulling the formula for finding said place, time and price. I'm not sure it's actually a quantifiable matter. However, I do believe it's possible...and after a long day at the office grind I do know that it's worth going for. Hope...is the essence of dreams, and what is man without a dream?
